Mrs Sharon Abela, is a lecturer at MCAST Institute of the Creative Arts. Her area of specialisation is history of art, interior design and graphic design. Prior to lecturing she has worked in various aspect of the industry of art and design however she felt that she can contribute more to society and pursued a career in  vocational teaching. She has now been teaching art and design since 2009. She is married and a mother of two.

 

In 2016, after the sudden and tragic passing of their son Andrew, the younger of the two, from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 20, together with her husband Sharon focused on creating a campaign dedicated to honour their son’s memory which they named Life after Drew. The campaign is aimed at creating awareness on all aspects of organ donation with specific reference to increasing registrations; increasing the educational framework that informs the public in all walks of life and all ages about the importance of organ donation; and raising awareness on the improvement of the support structure that exists to donors and their families, families of deceased donors and recipients. The campaign is a project that is supported by the Malta Community Chest Fund and MCAST.
