Dr. Jurgen Gerada is a Consultant Physician, Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist at Mater Dei Hospital. His gastroenterology training commenced in 2009, initially at Mater Dei Hospital and later at King’s College Hospital in London, where he subspecialised in hepatobiliary medicine and advanced endoscopy, in particular ERCP and EUS. In 2011, he obtained MRCP in Gastroenterology, as well as completed a Masters in Gastroenterology with the Queen Mary University of London, graduating with distinction and winning the overall annual University prize. He became consultant at Mater Dei Hospital in 2015 and has set up a number of specialty clinics, including hepatobiliary, IBD and coeliac clinics. He was involved in launching the Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) service at MDH in 2016, which he performs on a weekly basis in conjunction with ERCP. His main interests are gastrointestinal malignancy, liver disease, colonic polyps and colorectal cancer screening, advanced endoscopy and IBD. He has written a number of peer-reviewed papers and presented in international conferences. He is also a Visiting Lecturer and Auxiliary Examiner with the Malta Medical School and the Faculty of Health Science, holds the position of a Post-graduate Training Coordinator for medical BSTs, an associate editor of four gastroenterology journals, as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
