One of the fist things that need to be considering when embarking on any research project is to ensure that the data is really representative of the population you want to study. Accurate sampling is therefore essential in this respect.
This video is Part one of a three part series of videos on research intended for both undergraduate and post graduate medical professionals interested in carrying out research as part of their professional development.
Professor Liberato Camilleri is a professor in Statistics and the Head of the Statistics and Operations Research Department at the Faculty of Science, University of Malta. He studied Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Malta and received his PhD in Applied Statistics in 2005 from Lancaster University. His research specialization areas are related to statistical models, which include Generalized Linear models, Latent Class models, Multi-level models, Generalized Linear Mixed models, Generalized Estimating Equations, Item Response models and Survival models. Liberato is the author of several papers that are published in statistical journals and conference proceedings. His best publications include SEBD in Maltese Schools – A Multilevel model; Bias of Standard Errors in Latent Class Model Applications using Newton-Raphson and EM Algorithms; Latent Class Mixture models for analyzing rating responses; Models for Market Segmentation; Assessing the Performance of Information Criteria to determine the optimal number of segments in a Latent class framework; Standard error estimation in EM applications related to Latent Class models; Latent Class Analysis for segmenting preferences of investment bonds (best paper award). Liberato has co-authored three books and a number of publications with local and foreign researchers in several fields of application including neural networks, operations research, market research, education, SEBD, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and atmospheric chemistry. He has also participated in several research projects as a data analyst. Liberato is also an associate editor of the local journal Xjenza.
