This is the second in a six-part series dealing with Heart Failure. The aim of this series is to improve the recognition, diagnosis and management of heart failure.

 

In this edition, Dr Alex Borg discusses modern modalities of investigation of heart failure in particular the role of echocardiography in the proper diagnosis and classification of the type of heart failure. Dr Borg also discusses laboratory investigations and the role of NT Pro BNP in the diagnosis and monitoring of heart failure. Through the example of a patient case, the primary objective of this episode is to help health care professionals understand and apply necessary first- line and second-line investigations and monitoring requirements for heart failure patients.
